TO: The University Community
FR: Dan Bernstine, President
Attached is the report and recommendations of the President's Commission on Campus Climate and Life which I appointed in January of this year. In my charge to the commission I asked that members, "consider what our students should expect in the way of administrative services, classroom experiences, support for academic learning, social climate, and assistance in the transition from school to the workplace. In addition, what should we do to provide an exciting and supportive environment for faculty and staff?"
The commission's report and recommendations are the result of many hours of research and discussion with a wide spectrum of the campus community. I want to thank commission chair, Dalton Miller-Jones, and the fourteen commission members for their commitment to the commission charge and for the thoroughness with which they pursued it. The report and recommendations will serve as a comprehensive guide for the development of a positive and supportive environment for all who study and work here.
The Commission has done its work well. It is now the responsibility of the campus community to review and evaluate the report and recommendations and, where appropriate, to design implementation strategies and priorities. I will begin that process in consultation with the Advisory Council of the Faculty Senate and the Council of Academic Deans.
