Application Guidelines
PURPOSE
This award is a part of President Bernstine's PSU Diversity Initiative and is administered by The Diversity Action Council. In particular, it furthers one of the Diversity Action Council's goals: To enhance the institutional environment, curriculum, and student experience. This grant is providing funds to specifically enhance the student experience at PSU. Grant funds can enhance the student experience in a variety of areas: traditional classroom, community based experience, or on the campus in general.
ELIGIBILITY
Applicants are invited from all PSU student clubs and organizations. Proposals must be made up of collaborative teams that may include student groups, campus units, academic cohorts, and community organizations.
THE AWARD
The amount of the award will vary, depending upon the nature of the program and the impact it will have on campus life. Selected proposals will be funded, up to $500 per proposal with a total of $2,400 devoted to these awards for the 04-05 academic year.
THE APPLICATION
Applicants must submit a complete application including the following:
Project Summary: Applicants must include a description of the activities and the parties involved (limited to 200 words or less).
Proposal (limited to one to two double-spaced pages): Please attach a detailed proposal which includes: the purpose and rationale for the activities, timeline, the contribution of everyone involved, and how this activity will enhance the campus climate, and contribute to the overall student life experience. Examples of the activities may be (but are not limited to): workshops, campus wide projects, department based projects, or bringing speakers to campus.
Budget: Budgets normally include honoraria, materials & supplies, publicity, refreshments, and any additional expenses. Please include a brief narrative with justifications for each item. All funding must be in accordance with the new State of Oregon requirements and restrictions which currently does not allow funds to be used for travel purposes (airfare, hotel, etc.).
Pending Support: Please state if you are requesting funding for this program from other sources. Be sure to specify the name of the organization, department, or committee, and the amount of the award.
SUBMISSION PROCEDURE AND DEADLINES
Email the complete application to the Center for Academic Excellence (lawrencek@pdx.edu) by 5:00 p.m., on the following dates:
Grants are based on available funding. Award recipients will be notified within two weeks after the deadline. All funds must be expended by June 30, 2005.
SELECTION PROCESS
A committee, from the President's Diversity Action Council, will select proposals to be funded. Applications will be judged primarily on the soundness of the program; the feasibility of completing the program within the timeline proposed; the degree to which it furthers PSU's mission; the collaborations created, and the potential impact on student & campus life. Priority will be given to proposals from collaborative teams which include a variety of student organizations, community groups and campus departments.
TERMS AND CONDITIONS
Please list the Diversity Action Council as a sponsor on publicity materials and provide an electronic summary of the event, once it's completed, to the Diversity Action Council. Grant recipients will be expected to present the results/progess of their project at the Spring Focus on Diversity event.
